Teeth Whitening And Bleaching
Teeth whitening and tooth bleaching are popular cosmetic dental procedures aimed at improving the appearance of teeth by lightening their color. These treatments have gained significant popularity over the years, as many people strive for a bright and radiant smile. Here we will explore the process and benefits of teeth whitening and tooth bleaching.
Teeth Whitening Process
Teeth whitening and tooth bleaching involve the use of various techniques to remove stains and discoloration from the tooth surface. While these terms are often used interchangeably, they differ slightly in their approach.
Teeth Whitening: Over the counter products, take home whitening kits or in-office whitening are the 3 types of whitening. In-office whitening will provide the longest lasting result and greater depth (6 - 9 shades whiter). This process primarily focuses on restoring the natural color of the teeth by removing surface stains caused by factors such as coffee, tea, tobacco, or certain foods. Teeth whitening procedures typically involve the application of a bleaching agent, usually hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide, directly to the tooth enamel. The bleaching agent penetrates the enamel and breaks down the stains, resulting in a brighter smile. At Bhandari Dental, we use the beautiful Zoom in-office whitening exclusively at our practice.
Tooth Bleaching: Tooth bleaching, on the other hand, involves a more intensive approach to lighten the color of the teeth beyond their natural shade. It targets intrinsic stains that go beyond the surface and affect the underlying dentin layer of the teeth. Tooth bleaching treatments usually utilize stronger bleaching agents or a combination of different techniques, such as in-office bleaching or custom-made bleaching trays. Bleaching is a very effective treatment for stained or discolored teeth. A peroxide solution is applied, stimulated by heat or heat combined with light. Once the solution has been rinsed the teeth have been lightened. This procedure generally needs to be touched up each year.
Teeth Whitening Benefits
Enhanced Aesthetics: The primary benefit of teeth whitening and tooth bleaching is a noticeable improvement in the appearance of teeth. Bright, white teeth are often associated with youthfulness, good oral hygiene, and a healthy smile. By eliminating stains and discoloration, these procedures can help individuals achieve a more attractive and confident smile.
Boost in Self-Confidence: Many people feel self-conscious about their discolored teeth, leading to a lack of confidence in social and professional situations. Teeth whitening and tooth bleaching can significantly enhance one's self-esteem by providing them with a brighter, more vibrant smile. This newfound confidence can positively impact various aspects of life, from personal relationships to career opportunities.
Non-Invasive and Quick: Teeth whitening and tooth bleaching procedures are generally non-invasive, making them a convenient and relatively painless option for enhancing dental aesthetics. In-office bleaching sessions often take around 1-2 hours, while at-home treatments may take a few weeks. With advancements in dental technology, some systems even offer accelerated or instant results, reducing treatment time further.
Customization and Longevity: Dentists can tailor teeth whitening and tooth bleaching treatments to suit each individual's needs. Whether it's choosing the strength of the bleaching agent or customizing trays for at-home treatments, the process can be personalized for optimal results. While the duration of the whitening effects may vary depending on individual habits and maintenance, the results can last for several months to a few years, making it a long-lasting investment.
Safe and Regulated: Teeth whitening and tooth bleaching treatments are generally safe when performed by dental professionals or using dentist-approved products. Dental practitioners ensure that the procedures comply with professional standards and guidelines, minimizing the risk of adverse effects. It is important to consult with a dentist before undergoing any whitening or bleaching treatment to ensure its suitability and safety.

Whitening
Over the counter products, take home whitening kits or in-office whitening are the 3 types of whitening. In-office whitening will provide the longest lasting result and greater depth (6 - 9 shades whiter). We use Opalesence Extra Boost exclusively in our office.
Bonding
Bonding is used when a tooth has been chipped, damaged, misaligned or stained/ discoloured. A composite material is applied and molded to fit the form of the tooth. A
"bonding light" then dries and sets the material. Once this has been completed, we polish and smooth the material.
Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers provide the same function as bonding however they typically last longer. They are used for chipped, damaged, misaligned or discoloured teeth. The veneers are made of a very thin shell of porcelain that is bonded to the front of the teeth. Once applied it becomes very hard and durable. They resist stains and look very natural. This is a short procedure usually requiring only two appointments.
Bleaching

Gum Tissue Contouring
Gum tissue contouring, also known as gum reshaping or gum sculpting, is a cosmetic dental procedure that involves shaping and restructuring the gum line to enhance the aesthetics of the smile. This procedure is commonly performed to address issues such as a gummy smile (excessive gum display) or an uneven gum line.
White Fillings
Tooth-colored white fillings, also known as composite resin fillings, offer several advantages compared to traditional amalgam (silver/grey/mercury) fillings, as they are made to match the natural appearance and color of your teeth, providing a more aesthetically pleasing result, especially for visible teeth.
