This specialized therapy is dedicated to enhancing the function and coordination of the muscles within the facial and oral regions. OMT is a remarkable approach to addressing orofacial myofunctional disorders, which are incorrect muscle usage patterns within the oral and facial areas, affecting various aspects like speech, breathing, chewing, swallowing, facial aesthetics, and overall oral health.
Very few dental offices offer this service so call us today to reserve your appointment time.
This innovative therapy encompasses a range of exercises and techniques aimed at training and retraining the essential muscles involved in crucial functions such as breathing, swallowing, tongue posture, and facial expressions. The primary objective is to foster proper function and coordination, paving the way for improved facial aesthetics, clearer speech, efficient chewing and swallowing, and an array of health benefits.
Who stands to benefit from Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy?
Children: OMT is a boon for children exhibiting habits like thumb or finger sucking, mouth breathing, tongue thrusting, and incorrect tongue posture. Addressing these habits early can avert future speech and orthodontic issues while promoting proper facial development.
Orthodontic Patients: Those undergoing orthodontic treatments may find OMT beneficial. Correct tongue posture and swallowing patterns can enhance the effectiveness of orthodontic appliances like braces and ensure the longevity of orthodontic results.
Sleep Apnea and Breathing Disorders: Individuals facing sleep-disordered breathing or sleep apnea may experience relief with OMT. By enhancing oral and facial muscle function, this therapy can aid in better breathing and mitigate the severity of sleep-related breathing challenges.
Speech Disorders: Certain speech disorders are tied to orofacial myofunctional issues. Rectifying improper muscle patterns can significantly improve speech clarity and articulation.
Grinding/Clenching/ TMJ Dysfunction: TMJ disorders can be aggravated by incorrect muscle function in the oral and facial region. OMT may alleviate some of these symptoms.
Chewing and Swallowing Issues: Efficient chewing and swallowing necessitate proper muscle coordination. OMT is a solution for those struggling with these functions due to muscle dysfunction.
The therapy sessions at Bhandari Dental are meticulously tailored to cater to each individual's unique needs, encompassing exercises, behavioral modifications, and guidance on integrating proper muscle patterns into daily routines.

Bonding is used when a tooth has been chipped, damaged, misaligned or stained/ discoloured. A composite material is applied and molded to fit the form of the tooth. A
"bonding light" then dries and sets the material. Once this has been completed, we polish and smooth the material.
Porcelain veneers provide the same function as bonding however they typically last longer. They are used for chipped, damaged, misaligned or discoloured teeth. The veneers are made of a very thin shell of porcelain that is bonded to the front of the teeth. Once applied it becomes very hard and durable. They resist stains and look very natural. This is a short procedure usually requiring only two appointments.
Bleaching is a very effective treatment for stained or discoloured teeth. A peroxide solution is applied, stimulated by heat or heat combined with light. Once the solution has been rinsed the teeth have been lightened. This procedure generally needs to be touched up each year.
Gum Tissue Contouring
Gum tissue contouring, also known as gum reshaping or gum sculpting, is a cosmetic dental procedure that involves shaping and restructuring the gum line to enhance the aesthetics of the smile. This procedure is commonly performed to address issues such as a gummy smile (excessive gum display) or an uneven gum line.
Tooth-colored white fillings, also known as composite resin fillings, offer several advantages compared to traditional amalgam (silver/grey/mercury) fillings, as they are made to match the natural appearance and color of your teeth, providing a more aesthetically pleasing result, especially for visible teeth.
